Wah Ngai is known as the birthplace of Hong Kong’s classic red, white and blue bags. Its founder, Lee Wah, started hand-making these nylon carryalls in the 1960s. Cheap but durable, these bags became extremely popular. The red, white and blue colour combination has been an enduring icon that embodies the ‘Hong Kong spirit’, characterised by adaptability, fortitude and industriousness. Still widely seen throughout the city, these bags have gone on to become an icon of Hong Kong culture.
