Special information for Labour Day Golden Week (1–5 May 2025)

During Labour Day Golden Week (1–5 May 2025), major sightseeing attractions, in-town and cross-boundary transportation, and border crossings in Hong Kong may have special operating hours and arrangements. Inbound and outbound travellers are advised to take note of the following information to assist in planning their itinerary:

1) Major sightseeing attractions opening hours

There will be plenty of experiences to explore from morning till night during Labour Day Golden Week (1–5 May 2025). To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience throughout this period please plan your itineraries in advance as the opening hours of major attractions may be subject to adjustments.

2) Public transportation

To ensure a seamless experience during Labour Day Golden Week, several public transportations will enhance their services and extend their operating hours. The following outlines the special arrangements for major public transportation services:

Passengers are advised that traffic volume during Labour Day Golden Week may be higher than usual, and the operating hours and frequency of public transportation may be subject to adjustments. During Labour Day Golden Week (1 – 5 May), East Rail Line train services will be enhanced. During this time, train frequencies to and from Lok Ma Chau will increase to approximately every 7.5 to 10 minutes, while services to Lo Wu will be boosted to about every 5 minutes. Download the Immigration Department app to check the estimated queuing information at each land boundary control points to facilitate travel arrangements and reduce queuing time. Click here to check the passenger traffic at each control point.

4) Tips for exploring the great outdoors

  1. The East Dam area of High Island Reservoir is popular during Labour Day Golden Week. Plan your visit with the latest traffic updates, allow enough time for transportation and be patient with public transport. You can walk along the MacLehose Trail (Section 1) from Pak Tam Chung to East Dam or vice versa, which takes about 2.5 hours one way. For route details, please visit the AFCD’s website.
  2. To reach Po Pin Chau viewing platform, start at the trail head opposite to the East Dam 9A minibus stop and follow the High Island Geo Trail to the viewpoint, then return the same way.   3. To safeguard the environment, there may not be refuse collection bins along the hiking trails, including at East Dam. Visitors are encouraged to take their litter away and avoid littering, as this may be liable to prosecution.
