The annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival is held in May (The fifth to ninth of the fourth lunar month) this year. Tonnes of buns, papier-mâché effigies, lion dancers and tall tales of ancient evil spirits all converge on the island of Cheung Chau to create one of the world’s quirkiest local festivals. The festival has also been officially inscribed on the national list of intangible cultural heritage. It features a wide array of activities, including the exciting Bun Scrambling Competition, which attracts many locals and visitors. The Climbing Carnival will also be held in April, providing everyone with the opportunity to enjoy the fun of bun tower climbing.
