Sham Shui Po was once the heart of Hong Kong’s textile manufacturing industry. Today, the district remains a popular spot for designers and artisans looking for all kinds of textiles, fashion accessories and fabrics. The Yen Chow Street Temporary Hawker Bazaar, also known as ‘Pang Jai’, is the district’s famous fabric market which opened in 1978. Now it’s moved to the Tung Chau Street Temporary Market, just 300 metres away from the original location. The current Sham Shui Po Fabric Market occupies three blocks, with over 50 market stalls selling various fabric products, including 16 original operators from the former venue ‘Pang Jai’. If you’re looking for fabrics and other textile goods, this is definitely the place to be.
