Tuen Mun is home to Tai Lam Country Park, Hong Kong’s second largest, with Tai Lam Chung Reservoir at its heart. When you take one of the many walking routes round the park, you’ll notice dozens of small islands in the reservoir: these were actually hills, before the land was flooded by the catchwater. It’s now been nicknamed the “Thousand Island Lake” after its namesake in Zhejiang Province in China.
