618 Shanghai Street

618 Shanghai Street is a preservation-revitalisation project of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), comprising a cluster of 14 historic buildings on 600–626 Shanghai Street. The building materials were mainly brick walls, stone plaques and wood. Ten of the arcade buildings built over the pre-war period between 1920 and 1926 are merited Grade II historic buildings as declared by the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Office, while the other four are reinforced concrete buildings built post-war between 1962 and 1964.

618 Shanghai Street’s typical tenement buildings have incorporated both Chinese and Western architectural styles. Such balcony-type tenement buildings were popular in Guangdong and Hong Kong from the end of the 19th century until the early post-war period, and became the key streetscapes of commercial streets in Hong Kong back then.

618 Shanghai Street offers a variety of local lifestyle shops and restaurants. It also provides venues for public hiring, including the Multi-Function Room and Activity Area available for daily licensing arrangement.
