The Central—Mid-Levels Escalator is a popular attraction in Hong Kong. It is an 800-metre-long system that opened in 1993 and is known as the world's longest outdoor covered escalator. It starts at Queen's Road Central, connects to the Central Market Flyover, and winds through Central up to Conduit Road. It has 16 reversible one-way escalators and three reversible one-way travelators that reverse direction during peak hours: downward from 6am to 10am and upward from 10:20am to 12am (midnight). Beyond its daily use by locals, the escalator has become a renowned tourist attraction. It has also been featured in various films, with Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express being a notable classic set on its iconic structure.
