Boosting Local Ambience
As the pandemic stabilised in the second quarter of 2022, HKTB’s top priority was to swiftly revitalise the positive and vibrant ambience in Hong Kong. As such, HKTB announced the launch of the novel “Hong Kong Summer Treats” promotion in May, including the return of the popular Spend-to-Redeem “Local Tours” and “Staycation Delights”, as well as “Hot Summer Deals”, a brand-new promotion with 200,000 spending offers in the peak season of summer which successfully stimulated local spending and opened up business opportunities for the local trade.
Hong Kong Summer Treats
HKTB rolled out waves of promotions for dining, staycation, shopping, and entertainment and attractions in phases to intensify the positive ambience in town. Kicking-off the series of promotions were the popular Spend-to-Redeem programmes – “Local Tours” and “Staycation Delights”.
The Spend-to-Redeem programme invited the local public to patronise local businesses. Upon spending of HK$800 at a physical local dining or retail outlet, consumer could redeem their spending for a special offer. For instance, participants of “Local Tours” could sign up for a quota in a free local tour or a premium tour with a small top-up fee which is of great value of money, and enjoy an exclusive experience.
Both the “Local Tours” and “Staycation Delights” were enthusiastically received by both the public and trade partners in the travel and hospitality sectors, with the 60,000 places in “Local Tours” immediately snapped up soon after its opening up for registration. The campaign not only provided direct subsidies from HKTB to participating trade partners, but also created a multiplying effect which benefitted the local F&B and retail sectors. On top of “Hong Kong Summer Treats”, HKTB brought back another round of the Spend-to-Redeem programmes in October and November, including new elements of cultural and heritage tourism.
Stimulating consumption with 200,000 limited-quota offers
Riding on the arrival of summer and in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), HKTB joined hands with more than 200 attractions and Quality Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme-accredited merchants to shower consumers with 200,000 limited-quota offers in the first-ever “Hot Summer Deals” city-wide promotion. Offers with discount of up to 75% in retail, dining, theme parks and attractions were made available to the public through a newly launched e-platform on the Discover Hong Kong website, treating the public with exciting and diverse summer surprises in the city.
In addition to driving local consumption, “Hot Summer Deals” also enabled HKTB to gain hands-on experiences in handing out offers and rewards digitally online, paving ways for the introduction of “Hong Kong Goodies” visitor consumption voucher in early 2023 when travel resumed.
What’s more, HKTB also introduced “Feasts ‘n’ Treats” with 20,000 sets of half-price dining cash coupons up for grab in six consecutive weeks, covering over 850 QTS-accredited eateries to continuously create business opportunities for the local catering sector, while satisfying the appetite of local food lovers.
