South Stand in Kai Tak Stadium

The subtly pearlescent Kai Tak Stadium with a retractable roof is an instagrammable spot in itself. If you have entry to the stadium, head to the South Stand, reinvented from the famous 18-and-over seating section at the Hong Kong Stadium. There’s a large event platform at the top, set against a panoramic glass wall that provides an unimpeded, stunning view of Victoria Harbour.

Central Square

Central Square is the main axis connecting the Kai Tak Stadium to the adjoining parts of the Sports Park. From above, its design resembles a piece of fabric stretched and pinned to the neighbouring structures – albeit with a huge hole. From inside, it is a great portal-like circle opening to the sky. Crouch down and tilt your lens upwards to capture the structure, the sky and the Stadium in one frame.

‘The Rhythm of Life’ mural

London-based Mainland Chinese artist Satr has created a four-metre-long mural next to Kai Tak Sports Park’s Health and Wellness Centre featuring the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Done in her monochrome, ink painting style, ‘The Rhythm of Life’ shows animals leaping forward accompanied by misty swirls inspired by Chinese cloud motifs symbolising auspiciousness. Snap a photo with your zodiac animal and stroll up the steps nearby to get a good view over the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground.

‘Water/Sky’ sculpture

Another piece of art in the complex is the ‘Water/Sky’ sculpture by Australian artist Dominique Sutton, standing at the Water Sky Fountain. The eight-metre aluminium figure has its head held high hopefully with an arm stretched skyward – representing the ambition and drive of Hong Kong athletes. The metal surface of the sculpture is etched with symbols relevant to Hong Kong, and when illuminated at night, its shadows form the loose shape of a map.

Mirror of the Sky at Kai Tak Station Square

As the largest urban square in Hong Kong, the Kai Tak Station Square is a green breathing space in the busy city, boasting large water features which complement the existing Kai Tak River running through the square. AIRSIDE opens out onto a rooftop garden on its sixth floor, with lush greenery and flora native to Hong Kong.
